M+H was founded by Ron Mills and Brendan Hemingway on January 1st, 1989.

Ron and Brendan met in the early 1980s when Ron was recruiting developers for Iris, a health information systems vendor. Ron co-founded Iris with some other members of the Yale University community and was Vice President of Research & Development. Brendan headed up Applications Development.

In 1989, Iris had a mature product line and was focussed on selling what they had, not creating new products. Ron and Brendan left Iris to look for new development opportunities. They formed Mills & Hemingway, a consulting partnership, as an interim arrangement.

In the early 1990s, Ron and Brendan realized that the arrangement was not so interim. They changed the legal form of their business to a Limited Liability Corporation. At the same time, in order to recognize the fact that the business had grown into more than just the two of them, they changed the name to M+H Consulting, LLC and came up with the first M+H logo:

At the end of 1995, M+H realized that the Internet was going to make it as a commercial arena and in the first weeks of 1996 we registered mhconsulting.com as an Internet domain.

In August of 1996, M+H opened up an office in Bloomington, Indiana in order to serve Midwestern West Coast customers more effectively. This office was headed up by Ron, who moved his family from Connecticut into the great American Heartland.

In May of 1998, M+H moved its headquarters from New Haven, Connecticut to Branford, Connecticut into some custom-built office space. We reorganized into three divisions and began to focus on providing key pieces of the enterprise IS infrastructure, instead of stand-alone information systems.

On January 1st, 1999, M+H celebrated 10 years as a going concern.

On January 1st, 2002, M+H completed another reorganization, designed to focus us more on the Web and data presentation.

As a part of our reorganization, Ron Mills, our Senior Partner and co-founder, stepped down from his day-to-day duties so that he could pursue other interests. Ron is not gone entirely, he is now an M+H Associate. After a 31-year career, 10 of them with M+H, Ron is certainly entitled to a change and all of us here at M+H wish him the best of luck. In March of 2004, we spun off our DRG Assignment business as a separate entity, www.DRGGroupers.net.
